Diamond Shape Worksheet for Kids
A diamond is a shape with 4 straight sides and 4 corners, but it stands on one of its points rather than sitting flat. It looks a little like a square that has been turned to balance on its tip, with a point at the top, a point at the bottom and a point on each side.
When children aged 2 to 7 trace a diamond, they practise drawing slanted lines that lean in different directions and meeting neatly at each point. This is excellent for hand control and for understanding how the same shape can look new when it is turned.
Diamonds show up in many places. A flying kite, a sparkling gem, certain road signs, a diamond floor tile, the shape on a playing card and a wrapped diamond-shaped sweet all use this shape. Flying or drawing a kite together makes the diamond shape come alive.
