Hexagon Shape Worksheet for Kids
A hexagon is a shape with 6 straight sides and 6 corners. The word hexa means six, so a hexagon always has half a dozen sides and corners. It looks pleasingly even and is famous for fitting together neatly without any gaps, which is why bees use it to build their honeycombs.
When children aged 2 to 7 trace a hexagon, they practise counting up to six and drawing six straight lines, turning at each corner. This strengthens counting, focus and the small hand muscles needed for writing.
Hexagons appear in some clever places. A bee's honeycomb, the metal nut on a bolt, certain floor tiles, the body of many pencils, a delicate snowflake and a hexagon road sign all show this six-sided shape. Looking at a honeycomb together is a lovely way to bring the hexagon to life.
