ABC Tracing Worksheet

Letter S Tracing Worksheet for Preschool Kids

The letter S is a wiggly, curvy letter that looks just like a snake or a winding road. On this worksheet your child practises the uppercase S and the lowercase s, which are the same curvy shape with only the size changing. The dotted guides help your child wiggle the pencil first one way and then the other, which is a lovely workout for little hands.

As your child traces, say the sound “s” as in sun and snake. This is a soft hissing sound, just like a snake saying “ssss,” which makes it one of the most fun sounds to practise, and pairing it with the shape helps the letter stick. The picture cues of the sun, a snake and a star give friendly words to name, perhaps with a hiss for the snake.

This worksheet is made for ages 2 to 7. Younger children love the snaky wiggle of S, though the double curve can take practice, while older children write S words on their own. Tracing S builds control of a curve that changes direction, which strengthens wrist movement and pencil control wonderfully. Encourage your child to start at the top, curve back like the top of the snake, then curve forward again at the bottom, tracing slowly so both curves stay smooth.
