Letter X Tracing Worksheet for Preschool Kids
The letter X is a special crossing letter that looks like two roads meeting in the middle, a kiss at the end of a note, or the spot that marks treasure on a map. On this worksheet your child practises the uppercase X and the lowercase x, which are the same shape with only the size changing: two slanted lines that cross over each other right in the centre. The dotted guides help your child draw each line and cross them neatly.
As your child traces, say the sound “x” as in x-ray and fox. X is a tricky letter, because it often makes a “ks” sound at the end of words like box, fox, six and ox, and only a few words such as xylophone and x-ray begin with it. Pointing this out helps your child understand the letter. The picture cues of a xylophone, an x-ray, a box and a fox give helpful words to explore.
This worksheet is made for ages 2 to 7. Younger children enjoy the simple criss-cross of X, while older children write X words and learn where the X sound usually hides inside a word. Tracing X builds control of two slanted strokes that meet at a point, which is great for coordination. Encourage your child to say “one slanted line, then another, crossing in the middle.”
