Letter L Tracing Worksheet for Preschool Kids
The letter L is wonderfully simple, made of just straight lines. On this worksheet your child practises the uppercase L, which is a tall line down with a short line along the bottom like the corner of a wall, and the lowercase l, which is simply one tall straight line all on its own. The dotted guides help your child draw clean, confident strokes from top to bottom.
As your child traces, say the sound “l” as in lion and leaf. This is a soft, singing sound made by lifting the tongue to the top of the mouth, and pairing it with the shape helps the letter stick. The picture cues of a lion, a leaf and a lamp give friendly words to name, perhaps with a gentle roar for the lion.
This worksheet is made for ages 2 to 7. Younger children love L because its straight lines are easy and satisfying, while older children write L words and practise the neat right angle of the big L. Tracing L builds control of straight vertical and horizontal strokes, which forms the backbone of so many other letters. Remind your child to say “straight down, then a little foot to the right” for the big L, and to keep the lowercase l nice and tall.
